Feminism We Need

FEMINISM WE NEED

Today in 2023 there is a wave of feminism but this new type of feminism is all digital, in every aspect it is digital. There have been many a times when this digital feminism brought out the storm in Indian women. The ME-TOO movement or making trends on twitter so that the whole world could know about it also bringing a total complete woman centric movie or movie that focuses womanhood, speaking against any form of body shaming or slut shaming, oh! what is body shaming? And slut shaming? Some of you readers might not be familiar with this term cause some of you have been ignorant for their whole life either with wrong doings or being wrong happening with you

Body shaming is when you keep on shaming someone for how their body looks whether they are fat, short or their skin color is dark cause dark skin in India is not considered as beautiful but rather termed as dirty skin, skin that needs clearance so all these are forms of body shaming and the body shame mostly starts from Indian households from their own parents. Slut-shaming is the practice of criticizing people, especially women and girls, who are perceived to violate expectations of behavior and appearance regarding issues related to sexuality. The term is used to reclaim the word slut and empower women and girls to have agency over their own sexuality. Examples of slut-shaming include being criticized or punished for: violating dress code policies by dressing in sexually provocative ways; requesting access to birth control; having premarital, extramarital, casual, or promiscuous sex; or engaging in prostitution. It can also include being victim-blamed for being raped or otherwise sexually assaulted.

So now when you know what are these terms you might be knowing how you view women in your head whether it’s your mother, daughter, wife, girlfriend, sister or any random women on street. In most Indian household wives, daughters or any female member kept behind and get treated like objects they don’t have much rights as you can see whether to choose career or choose their partner with whom they have to stay for long as their lives, they can’t wear what they wish for, they have curfew times as in total girls are restricted to do anything that a normal human does, all these are form to stop, restrict women from getting independent or to choose their will for lives also in many cases the women get restricted cause of lack of information and a rebellious nature. The merging of technology with the physical world has revolutionized the global scene. Tools like blogging and social media have led to the democratization of the feminist motives by providing accessibility, encouraging diversity, and inspiring leadership in a movement. Online or cyberfeminists make use of blogging and social media to make aware all these wives and daughters who forgot their own rights in their own house. Social media allows for the swift dissemination of knowledge and information across borders, and thus enables transnational feminist networks. Using digital tools, feminists have appropriated the internet culture with the use of humor and other creative satirical formats as a mode of communication. With better access to information online, women have developed a greater sense of awareness. Feminist digital platforms, online educational media, instructional blogs and videos, safety apps, and the like, have opened up women to a virtual space that gives them avenues for self-assertion. Moreover, these digital spaces provide women with the comfort of anonymity. A virtual space that is accessible anonymously can offer a form of safety that probably no offline or physical medium can offer to individuals of an oppressed identity. Let us look at a few technological media that have aided women and helped them develop a shared web of sisterhood

When I see women near me, I feel they are bounded in someway or the other either their dreams, aspirations have been bounded by their family or they themselves wholly as a whole human being. People especially male counterparts in our society are entitled to assert authority over their female counterparts and I mean in every way whether it’s family, life, personal choices or love. Male counterparts mansplain and act as manchild, act of service is something we all should be doing irrespective of gender but when that act of service is just one sided then it doesn’t seem as act of service it more likely to become slavery. Women are often shamed for enjoying their life whether it’s drinking, smoking or partying cause morally women are not meant to be smoke drink or do any kind of that stuff as it will affect their purity. When it comes to purity biggest concern of a women becomes if she is VIRGIN or not cause society wants a pure commodity in their house not used one, aha! I ain’t saying this these are words of men and women in society who treats their daughters, wives, sisters as “commodity” “objects”. In India, there is a prevalent cultural belief that losing one’s virginity before marriage is a disgraceful act, especially for women. The stigma around premarital sex is deeply ingrained in the societal mindset, and people who engage in such activities are often subjected to social ostracization and even physical harm however, as India undergoes rapid social and cultural changes, attitudes towards premarital sex and virginity are gradually evolving.

“Are you willing to buy a broken seal while purchasing a bottle of cold drink or a packet of biscuits? A girl is born sealed from birth until it is opened. A virgin girl means many things accompanied with values, culture, and sexual hygiene. To most boys virgin wife is like angel,”

A Jadavpur University (JU) professor, Kanak Chandra Sarkar, has landed in controversy over his Facebook post where he made an analogy between a 'sealed bottle' and virginity. So this is how a educated professor of such a big university speaks up for women, teaching young women in classroom and having this mindset and it’s not a single person problem people surrounding you has the same mindset as him comparing women with a sealed bottle or box of sweets which will get contaminated if anyone opens them

People consider women everything except let alone human, they forget us women also have feelings ,desires, ambition, aspiration like any normal human I am living in your house doesn’t automatically makes me your slave or commodity these things will come to an end if women stop being against women’s happiness and as mothers nurture their boys to be more empathetic towards females around them , teach them to be an equal to their female counterparts make them sensitive towards emotional topics make them stay away from toxic masculinity.

“MASCULINITY DOESN’T MAKE EVERYONE A MAN”

YOU HAVE TO START FROM YOUR OWN HOUSE!
