This phenomena attributes to gender-based price
discrimination. ‘Pink’ the name given because many affected products are pink
in color whether it’s skincare products or medicine, this overpricing of the
products also creates an ignorant discrimination which is not even seen by the
common people. A 2015 study by New York City Dept of consumer affairs said that
the products are expensive without a reasonable cause, this study also concludes
that products which are marketed to woman cost on average 7% more than products
marketed towards men.
According to World Economic Forum in United States analyzed 800 gender specific products from 100 different brands and after analyzing a report was formulated and if the report is seen then we can conclude is that products which are literally targeting the female section were 13% more expensive also this report says
“Women are paying thousands of dollars more over the course of their lives to purchase similar products”Companies claim that reason behind for this price disparity is different because of the production cost and it gets increased due to adding colors and design to attract female customers.

Pink color has always been associated to women, but do we
know why, does color in general really have a gender. Blue is for male, and pink
is for female from childhood we have seen that the society start associating
colors to a particular gender. Barbies gets manufactured in pink colors and
guns or Beyblades get manufactured in black or blue color, what if the stereotype we had in our mind lead to this
pink tax which women are paying for unknown reason, or these companies have
created a façade which we are unaware off.
